The Missing Men...

Last Saturday, four friends sailed off the coast of Florida on a planned fishing trip at around 6:30a.m.

"The Air Force Reserve sent a C-130 airplane and a Pave Hawk helicopter to assist the Coast Guard's search, which also included several other helicopters and airplanes. Three Coast Guard cutters were also on the water," said Coast Guard Capt. Tim Close.

Two of the individuals that are missing are NFL players Marquis Cooper from the Raiders and an NFL free agent named Corey Smith.

So far, only one person was found since the tragic disappearance of the four individuals. Formal USF player, Nick Schuyler, was found floating on top of the 21-foot single engine boat alone in the middle of the ocean.

Schuyler said all of the men had on life jackets and were too exhausted to continue holding on to the boat in an attempt to wait on being rescued.

"We now know we are looking for persons in the water, not a boat," said Close.

This story has gone nation wide and has been aired on every local station within the United States, the families of all the missing people still have high hopes that they are alive somewhere waiting to be found.

It has been over 48 hours since the disappearance of the other three men and the odds of finding them alive are nearly slim to none.

  1. Well if they have life jackets on that gives them more hope in my eyes. Although being lost at sea has to be one of the most scary life-threatening situations someone could face. You just have so many elemnts working against you. I hope they are found and brought to safety.

  2. I think all of us have a hard time believing that the same ocean we all enjoy swimming and surfing in can pack such a wallop when it's in a stormy mood. I think we also have difficulty with the fact that super fit, well-conditioned men could drown just from going on a fishing trip. The coverage, to me, has seemed to be an attempt to figure it all out--what could have happened to these guys that could have been prevented? The answer might be nothing--the ocean is unpredictable and uncontrollable. Even though the people involved are famous, the same old question begs to be answered--how did this tragedy strike able-bodied adults?

  3. Great post, I did the same story too. Last night, the survivor said that two of the people were holding on to the boat like him. But that those two people lost hope after a while and allowed their selves to be drifted out to sea. Also, the survivor said that the 3rd person saw a light in the distance and swimmed towards it, but he never returned. From what I heard, the owner of the boat knew about the storm and decided to go anyway. I wished he would have used common sense. I don't know how to swim, so u will never see me on a boat.

  4. lik ei said in the other blog, i pray everyday for these men to come back to thier family an dffriends. the idea of men being left alone int he midddle of the ocean is crazy scary, and unbelevievable. just thinking abou tit make mes tremble, oimagine being there. i freak out when i get lost in the malkl or in a store, i mean when i was little, not today. so being lost at sea is one of my worst nightmares, and i hope with everything i have that they come back to us.

  5. This story has been aired on so many other television stations, and on two other blogs as well.

Again, I say that I do hope that they find those players.

It's also interesting to me that you included the fact that they sent out a helicopter and a plane to search for the missing people. I remember hearing about that, but I don't remember reading about it on the other two blogs.
